5 Tips to help you drink more water

Water is so vital for your health, but most of us are chronically dehydrated. If you're not making a conscious effort to drink plenty of water everyday, chances are high that you're dehydrated. Some symptoms of dehydration are obvious, while others not so much. Thirst, dry mouth, dry skin, low urine output, and yellow-colored urine are all pretty clear signs of dehydration. But other symptoms of dehydration include low energy, headaches, brain fog, various pain, dizziness, bad breath, food cravings, bad skin, and overall poor health.

You know you should drink more water. There are so many health benefits if you stay hydrated. But most of the time, it’s harder than you think. Water is bland and you get busy so you often forget to hydrate as much as you need to. Here are some tips to make your life easier and help you establish some good water drinking habits.

1. Jazz it up with some flavor
Add some natural flavor to your water by infusing it with fruits, veggies, or herbs such as grapefruit, strawberries, lemon, cucumber, ginger, celery, basil, mint, lavender etc. There are many different combinations that you can experiment with that jibes with your palate. There’s also natural water additives such as Stur that can you flavor your water with to help you drink more.

2. Add Some Salt!
Pink Himalayan Salt
is probably the best thing to add to your water. This is not your typical table salt. Table salt is a health destroyer. It’s composed of 97.5% sodium chloride & 2.5% chemicals like iodine and sugar. They usually process and refine the salt, heating it up to 1,200 F, which destroys the natural chemical structures of the salt. This salt does not absorb very well in the body and instead leaches your body of water.

Himalayan Salt on the other hand is GOOD for you. Some of the health benefits of this salt include:

  • Regulating proper water levels in the body
  • Maintaining stable pH balance in the cells
  • Promoting excellent blood sugar health
  • Reducing common signs of aging
  • Stimulating your metabolism
  • Promoting nutrient absorption in your intestines
  • Supporting vascular health
  • Reducing cramps
  • Increasing bone strength
  • Naturally promoting healthy sleep patterns
  • Supporting a healthy libido

It makes the water taste pretty good too. Figure out the right amount of the salt to use that suits your taste buds.

3. Invest in a Water Bottle
Having a full water bottle nearby throughout the day will help you drink more water. Hydroflasks are nice but they’re usually a bit pricey. Try Glacier Point Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles. They’re basically the same thing as Hydroflasks but at a more affordable price.

Whatever you do, you should get a stainless-steel water bottle over a plastic one. Even though it says "BPA-FREE" plastic is still plastic and it will leach other chemicals into your water.

4. Use an app
Nowadays there’s an app for everything. Use an app to remind yourself to drink more water! IPHONE and ANDROID apps are available.

5. Choose sparkling water instead of soda
Out for a nice dinner and craving the refreshing crisp of a soda? Drink sparkling water instead to fulfill that fizzy sensation while continuing to hydrate.

Water is so good for you, but we often take it for granted. Use the above 5 tips to make sure you stay hydrated. You also need to drink the right kind of water and the right amount of water everyday. The health benefits of drinking plenty of water is something you can't miss out on. Cheers!
